In their appearance in the U18 Prep Championship final, RHA Kelowna earned a decisive victory over Delta Hockey Academy. The team's disciplined approach, consistent effort, and strategic execution carried them through a challenging tournament. Capturing this first-ever U18 Prep title signifies RHA Kelowna's growing strength and presence within the CSSHL.

Head Coach Josh Bonar highlighted the resilience and growth of his players throughout their championship journey:

"This season’s success came down to the players’ belief, confidence, and relentless work ethic. There were highs and lows along the way, and while it wasn’t always easy, we learned a lot from the tougher moments in tournaments and throughout the season. Those experiences brought us closer together and helped us understand exactly what it takes to win a championship."

Bonar also noted the exceptional unity and camaraderie among his players, emphasizing its importance:

"This group was one of the tightest-knit teams I’ve ever coached. They supported each other on and off the ice, and that camaraderie was a crucial part of our success with our championship run."

Reflecting on RINK’s overall approach, Bonar credited the academy’s dedicated staff and culture of development:

"At RINK, development is truly at the core of everything we do. We’re fortunate to have an incredible team of coaches and staff who dedicate an immense amount of time and energy to building a program that drives results. The Female U18 Prep squad continued their exceptional run, clinching their fourth straight CSSHL Division I Western Championship. The team's perfect season, without a single loss, exemplified their remarkable consistency and dominance within the league.

Head Coach Garrett Festerling credited their success to a deeply rooted team culture and the players’ unwavering dedication:

"From start to finish, our team stayed focused, and every player played their part. We didn’t lose, and our championship run was a result of our culture, trust, and commitment to each other."

Festerling also pointed out specific factors that contributed significantly to the team's impressive year:

"This season, our success came from a strong, unified culture. Every player was dedicated to improving, both on and off the ice. With no injuries and a flawless record, we were able to maintain consistent performance throughout. The added ice time for skill development and game situations, combined with off-ice training and video analysis, kept us sharp and prepared for every challenge."

Reflecting on what makes RHA Kelowna unique as a hockey destination, Festerling emphasized the holistic environment provided for the players:

"RHA Kelowna provides an environment where players develop both on and off the ice. The emphasis on skill-building, discipline, and teamwork creates a culture of growth and success. U17 Prep Division: Emerging Talent Takes the Title

RHA Kelowna's U17 Prep team also secured their divisional championship through strategic and skillful play, demonstrating a depth of talent across the organization's development system. The championship highlighted the potential of this younger group, positioning them as future contenders in the higher age divisions.

Head Coach Jackson Playfair emphasized the core philosophy driving his team’s achievement this season:

"Being the home of hockey development is a daily mission. The work that goes into the RINK Hockey Academy is a daily process of effort supported by the best professionals in the business."

Playfair also underlined the importance of a process-oriented approach rather than merely chasing wins:

"Great people, putting in long hours to work towards a singular goal, development. This comes in different ways, and often success on the ice and championships are not the best indicators of success. The goal is not wins, but the daily process; that is where our academies' and team's success came from. Committing to putting in the work on a daily basis, and being supported by people who care."

Describing what set his team apart this year, Playfair highlighted their determination and commitment:

"This season’s success is a result of the players buying in and not looking for shortcuts along the way. They pushed each other each day on and off the ice, and they believed in themselves."

Historic Feat: Dual U18 Prep Titles

RHA Kelowna’s achievement in capturing both the Male and Female U18 Prep divisions simultaneously is unprecedented in CSSHL history. Before this season, no organization had successfully managed to secure both elite U18 titles within the same year. Given the high level of competition and talent across the league, this feat underscores not only exceptional individual team performance but also the overall effectiveness of RHA Kelowna’s development model.

Building a Culture of Champions

These three championships represent more than just trophies—they are a clear reflection of RHA Kelowna’s organizational culture, dedication, and holistic player development approach.

Executive Director Maco Balkovec highlighted the broader significance of these victories for the entire academy.

"It’s pretty special and unprecedented to have four teams competing for championships and three of them winning. It speaks volumes about the quality of our people and how much they genuinely care about the kids. We hold our players accountable, push them hard in training and practice, but we also make sure they know we believe in them and want the best for them individually and as a team. Our staff is aligned in this mission: Andrew LoCurto leads our off-ice training, Dr. Kolin Kriitmaa supports mental performance, and Byron Ritchie and Zach McPhee provide elite skill and skating instruction. Liam Anderson does an incredible job ensuring our players receive the best treatment and rehabilitation, always attentive to their individual needs and getting them ready to return to play. Our coaches emphasize individual skill development, tactical growth, and preparation for big moments beyond just gameplay. We had a clear plan when we started four years ago, and now you can see the results. Most of our championship players have developed within our program, progressing through and graduating from our high school."

With this year's victories, RHA Kelowna continues to set the standard in youth hockey, cementing their legacy and laying a strong foundation for continued excellence and success.
